Research & Planning - interim grade

Well done, the blog is a record of some enthusiastic research and planning, demonstrating proficiency in analysing texts using key concepts and developing your own film concept. Your pitch was interesting and original in the film treatment, and you have clearly reflected on feedback to select and refine the narrative for the opening sequence.

However, you were given some clear feedback about gaps in film research at the beginning and how you didn't have clear links between the films analysis and the concept - you haven't completed the technical analysis correctly (breakdown of all shots/sound/titles in first 2 minutes). This needs to be resolved. You are also missing audience research and findings on the blog.

At the moment, your research is a high L3, but gaps must be resolved.

Your practical tasks show promise technically, however you must take care with steady camera work, cutting on action and creating pace through fast editing. Having just reviewed your first draft animatic (posted with no comments / explanation?), I can see the planned narrative, however you need sound, camera movement indicated and my major concern is that the shots are very long, with not much going on in them. I think you need to review this carefully and add more shot ideas before you go on location - I was expecting a fast paced, surreal dream montage which is not evident in the animatic.

Nevertheless, a very promising concept and I hope you will shoot early to give you time to review and go looking for creative ideas to improve and refine the work.
